HOLLYWOOD -- Man's best friend was honored at Walt Disney's first-ever "Canine Carnival." Celebrities and their canine companions arrived at Griffith Park in celebration of the video re-release of Disney's "Lady and the Tramp" on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998.

Disney rolled out the carpet and flea collars for hundreds of VIP pooches and their celebrity owners. The "Canine Carnival" featured a variety of activities including doggie psychics, IQ testing and screen tests, and a doggie relay race and obstacle course.

Gena Nolin and her pooch took time out from saving lives on "Baywatch" to participate in puppy paw prints cast in clay and artistic doggie paw painting. The two blondies were two of the hottest duos to appear at the premiere -- tongues were dropping in every direction.

Charles Shaughnessy brought his royal canine Betty. Betty, being no wallflower, jumped at the chance to ride the Griffith Park's landmark merry-go-round. She did insist on being carried around by Shaughnessy -- only the royal treatment for his lady.

It looked like the return of the Olsen Twins when Debra Dunning arrived with daughter Spencer and pup Charlie. They participated in fun-filled carnival games and face painting.

Debbie Allen made the event a family affair with kids and their dog Apache. Lorenzo Lamas left the leather jacket at home and brought his two lucky ladies Shauna and Alexandra, with no tramps in sight.

Blue ribbons went to Katherine Kelly Lang and her puppies for best behaved. Lang followed her invitation carefully, which read all pooches may run free but children must be leashed at all times.

Other celebrities included Irene Bedard with Freep, Bob Goen with Summer, and Ernie Hudson with his family and dog Zukie. The starlit evening was topped off with the screening of Disney's animated dog tale, "Lady and the Tramp." No bones about it, the night howled with Disney fun and excitement.
